LEGOLAND California |
Fifty miles south of Disneyland, just off I-5, is a charming, 128-acre theme park called LEGOLAND, billed as a “country just for kids.” Its slower-paced rides and pleasant landscaping make LEGOLAND a relaxing respite from the more “thrilling” theme parks in Southern California. LEGOLAND opened in 1999 and is located between Los Angeles and San Diego.
Invented in 1932, the word “Lego” combines two Danish words (“leg” and “godt”) meaning “play well,” which is what you’ll do at LEGOLAND, where creativity and imagination flourish. Colorful LEGO® models are everywhere—on the water, in the trees, and in unexpected hideaways. Unique rides encourage active participation: pedaling a sky cruiser, using a pulley to hoist your chair up a tower. These attractions and an abundance of LEGO® building opportunities keep visitors engaged and involved, awakening the “master builder” in everyone. Children ages 2–12 are sure to love the kid-sized attractions, and adults will marvel at the detailed and humorous LEGO® models. Teens and young adults, however, might not want to stick around due to the lack of thrill rides. LEGOLAND is the most “Disney” of any non-Disney park. They really “get it.”
The areas in LEGOLAND are divided into eight play themes that follow the different lines of LEGO® toys, in addition to a water park with two themed areas (LEGOLAND Water Park and LEGO® Chima™ Water Park). Below are the areas, along with descriptions and headline attractions. There is also a Sea Life Aquarium on the property, and admission can be combined See attraction details starting on 2230.
