109Construction fencing seems to be the major theme at Disney California Adventure, as the park goes through a multi-year "re-imagining." The good news is that the remaining fencing has come down in the Paradise Pier area. In addition to The Little Mermaid-Ariel's Undersea Adventure, which opened in June, Goofy's Sky School (a re-theming of the Mulholland Madness coaster) is now up and running. Long-time favorite eatery, Corn Dog Castle, is back in service, Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta (a re-theming of Pizza Oom Mow Mow) is serving Italian classics and trendy flatbreads, and all-new Paradise Garden Grill is serving up Middle Eastern specialties. Over in the Pacific Wharf area, Mission Tortilla Factory has closed, to be replaced in 2012 by a Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory Tour and Soda Fountain.

109The "re-imagining" of Disney California Adventure park is moving right along. The park's re-designed main entrance, modeled on Los Angeles' historic Pan Pacific Auditorium, opened recently. (The Pan Pacific Auditorium also inspired the main entrance of Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.) Right inside the entrance, the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge are coming down. While the Disneyland monorail will continue to run across a bridge, it will soon be a re-creation of the Glendale-Hyperion Bridge, a causeway that crosses I-5 and the Los Angeles River, connecting Silver Lake and Glendale, less than a half-mile from Walt Disney's first Los Angeles studio. (The bridge may also look familiar to fans of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.)

- 2014-04-29 10:04:51 [update]
109June 15 was a momentous day at Disneyland Resort, the culmination of a five-year "re-imagining" of Disney California Adventure Park (DCA). The biggest attention-getter was the official opening of all-new Cars Land and its E-Ticket masterpiece, Radiator Springs Racers. This major addition to the park has two other attractions-Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, and Luigi's Flying Tires, plus three eateries and four retail shops.

To get to Cars Land on June 15, the throng of guests passed through a newly-opened, totally redesigned main entrance area encompassing Buena Vista Street (homage to Los Angeles of the 1920s), Carthay Circle (formerly Sunshine Plaza), and the all-new Carthay Circle Theater, which houses a new high-end restaurant and a private club along the lines of Disneyland's Club 33. Guests may even hitch a ride on the Red Car Trolleys that now ply Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land (formerly the Hollywood Pictures Backlot). Altogether, the entrance area has seven new or redesigned restaurants and nine retail shops, and the all-new trolley ride.

During the park's years-long re-imagining, substantial changes were also made to the Paradise Pier section of the park, including the addition of World of Color, Toy Story Midway Mania, and The Little Mermaid-Ariel's Undersea Adventure (which replaced Golden Dreams), the re-theming of three rides, removal of another, and the re-theming of the quick service dining area.

We'll skip some of the smaller changes at DCA, like the recently-opened Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, and cross the Esplanade to Disneyland Park, which celebrated a grand re-opening of its own on June 15. Matterhorn Bobsleds re-opened after a six-month rehab that includes the introduction of new ride vehicles. We're not sure how many guests chose Matterhorn Bobsleds over Radiator Springs Racers on opening day.

115"Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular," the very popular live stage show at the Hyperion Theater at Disney's California Adventure, will not be closing on August 15, 2010 as originally announced. The show was going to be replaced by "Toy Story - The Musical," but that change has been pushed off into the future (exactly when, Disney isn't saying). Disney's Aladdin opened at Disneyland Resort in January 2003, and Genie, who in this version does a topical comedy monologue, is a particular favorite.
- 2010-05-13 02:05:29 [update]
117June 8 brings a new exhibit to Blue Sky Cellar at Disney California Adventure, "The Radiator Springs Historical Society's Museum of the History of Radiator Springs." Blue Sky Cellar (formerly Golden Vine Winery) has been the preview center for the park's extensive make-over, exhibiting drawings, models, and films describing the work going on behind the construction fences. With the June 15 grand opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street, and Carthay Circle (the last remaining elements to the make-over), "coming attractions" is about to become "history." It seems fitting that the future for Blue Sky Cellar will be firmly rooted in the (fictional) past.
