Due to the severe drought conditions and increased chance of wildfires in Central Florida, Walt Disney World has limited fires at campsites and cabins at Fort Wilderness. Other resorts that have campfires are limiting activities.
Walt Disney World has announced a "Free Dining" offer for select dates and resorts this fall. But hang on - this year is very different from previous offers! Value and Moderate Resorts will receive the Quick Service Dining Plan for free. Only Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts will receive the Disney Dining Plan for free. A 2-day Park Hopper Pass is required in order to qualify for this offer and many black out dates and resort restrictions apply. Visit DisneyWorld.com for details. From the Disney Parks Blog: "Beginning in May and continuing throughout 2017, a different Disney Springs proprietor each Wednesday will open early (9-10 a.m.) to Members and their guests, while also making a special offer available during these early hours and for the remainder of the shop’s operating day.
Kate Spade New York – home to iconic handbags, clothing, jewelry, shoes, décor and gifts – will kick things off on May 3, opening to Members and their guests at 9 a.m. and offering a special 15 percent Member discount throughout the day on select merchandise.
Other stores on the upcoming slate include PANDORA Jewelry, Origins, Basin, Vera Bradley, UGG, Sephora, L’Occitane en Provence, American Threads, Sugarboo & Co and Edward Beiner. Note that special offers from participating shops may vary, from discounts to complimentary customization services to free gifts with purchase. The Reedy Creek Improvement District (aka Walt Disney World) has released documents confirming the long-rumored Gondola system being built. The Gondola system will connect Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Caribbean Beach with Epcot and Hollywood Studios. No time frame has been announced for the project.
Orlando recently hosted the "Star Wars Celebration" event and some very interesting details emerged from the panels. The Imagineers shared that Star Wars Land at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will feature a never-before-seen location - a remote frontier outpost - that is "an extension of the Star Wars universe." The two new attractions - including one where guests get to become part of the flight crew of the Millenium Falcon - will feature new levels of interactivity from guests. The current Star Tours attraction on both coasts will be getting a new scene from "The Last Jedi." Star Wars Land will open in 2019.
Disney's all-new Summer of Heroes kicks off May 27, 2017, when the former Tower of Terror reopens as Guardians of the Galaxy--Mission Breakout! After helping Rocket rescue his buddies from the Collector, you'll be able to bust some moves with Star-Lord and his Awesome Mix tapes in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!
And for the first time ever, Groot will be on hand to meet Terrans; look for fellow Marvel heroes Captain America and Spider-Man, too.
Other limited-time events will include Avengers Training Initiative, where young would-be Avengers are tested by Black Widow and Hawkeye; Heroic Encounter: Black Widow--you may see her arrive in an armored Avengers vehicle; and special Marvel hero-themed food and merchandise offered throughout Hollywood Land.
The 'Frozen Summer Games' will be returning to Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World, beginning on May 26, 2017. Guests can participate in a series of activities including relay races, Ski Pole Limbo, Snow Ball Toss, and more. Kristoff and Olaf will also be on hand for meet and greets with guests!
