Travel Guide Updates for PassPorter™ Walt Disney WorldŽ (first edition, 1999)

These updates were current as of 6/20/2000. Visit http://www.passporter.com/wdw/bookupdates.htm again for the most recent list of book updates.

Reminder: These updates do not include every new thing at Walt Disney World as that would require an entirely new book to explain! Instead, this chart only lists the pages in PassPorter Walt Disney World which would be out-of-date or incorrect without this information.

35

Merchandise Delivery: Packages can be delivered to resorts, but not always directly to your room. It varies by resort and staffing.

Disney now accepts Discover, JCB, and Diner's Club.

9/12/99 38 The All-Star Resorts offer double beds, not queen beds. Additionally, some of the rooms with king-size beds do have tubs (instead of showers only). If both a king-size bed and a tub are important to you, request this when you make your reservation and again at check-in.
12/17/99

46

The Caribbean Beach Resort no longer has mini-bars in the rooms, though most rooms still have coffeemakers and offer refillable mugs, ponchos, and packets of coffee for sale. Additionally, refrigerators rentals now cost $10/day.
12/17/99

47

Caribbean Beach buses now stop at Jamaica first rather than Martinique.
12/17/99

52

The publically-accessible observation deck at the Contemporary Resort is located on the eleventh floor. Guests dining at the California Grill may be able to access the deck on the fifteenth floor, located near the restrooms.
12/17/99

56

Refrigerators at the Coronado Springs Resort (and other resorts) can be rented for $10/day.
6/20/2000

58

Disney Institute no longer offers day visitor programs or program-based vacations (in other words, no more classes for individuals). There are some exceptions, such as the Photography Weekend, but they are few and far between.
12/17/99

59

A boat (water launch) now runs between the Disney Institute and Downtown Disney Marketplace. The Disney Institute dock is located near the tennis courts.
12/17/99

66

There are only 784 campsites, not 1192. The 408 Wilderness Homes and Cabins and the 784 campsites add up to 1192.
9/12/99 67 Fort Wilderness only offers direct buses to Disney's Animal Kingdom, the Transportation & Ticket Center, and Wilderness Lodge. It does not offer direct buses to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, or Downtown Disney. Magic Kingdom is accessible by a direct boat. To get to the other parks and resorts, you must take a bus to the Transportation & Ticket Center and transfer to a monorail (to Epcot, Magic Kingdom, or one of the monorail resorts) or transfer to a bus. See the Fort Wilderness Transportation Guide for more details.
12/17/99

68

The Electrical Water Pageant can be seen from the Fort Wilderness beach at 9:45 pm.

89

The new Villas at the Wilderness Lodge are visible from the south wing of the Lodge. The new Wilderness Lodge map in PassPorter 2000 shows the new Villas.
9/12/99 92 In the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, a bank of elevators near each resort's lobby serves most rooms. If your room is at one of the far ends, look for a single elevator available here rather than trekking down the twisting hallways.
6/20/2000 96 Two name changes: Travelodge Hotel is now the Best Western (800-348-3765), and Buena Vista Palace Resort & Spa is now Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa (same 800 number).
6/20/2000 100 Disney now accepts Discover, JCB, and Diner's Club.

Packages can be delivered to resort guests' resorts (not always to their rooms).

The Skyway has been permanently closed.

9/12/99 117 Epcot is accessible from the Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian by taking the monorail to the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) and transferring to an Epcot monorail. From Downtown Disney or the Fort Wilderness Resort, take a bus to the TTC and transfer to the Epcot monorail. From other resorts, Disney-MGM Studios, or Disney's Animal Kingdom, buses take you directly to Epcot.
9/12/99 119 Disney is rehabilitating the Journey Into Imagination pavilion at Epcot. It re-opened in time for the Millennium Celebration and is now called "Journey Into Your Imagination."
9/12/99 121 The Copperfield Magic Underground Restaurant, which was expected to open in 1999 at Disney-MGM Studios, is on permanent hold.
6/20/2000 130 Countdown to Extinction is now called Dinosaur (after the feature animation). It has also gotten a wee bit tamer.

Discovery River Boats are gone.

12/17/99 138 The Copperfield Magic Underground Store, which was expected to open at Disney's West Side, is on permanent hold. At the present, the "Disney Groove" store (which sells funky Disney merchandise) is in its place next to the AMC Theaters.
9/12/99 144 Discovery Island closed in 1999 and is not expected to re-open in its former incarnation (an 11-acre zoological park). Look for a new park or similar attraction to open here at some future date.

Update: In the spring of 2000, Walt's Hollywood Heritage tour returned. In June 2000, a new tour called Undiscovered Future World debuted.

Disney Institute no longer offers programs to individuals.

6/20/2000 173 Epcot Discovery Center is gone, as is Wonders of Walt Disney World and Disney Day Camp.
6/20/2000 175 The Adventureland and Magic Quote Challenges are gone.
